Albergue

Beloved TARA Friends & Supporters

Bañaderos is the largest dog and cat shelter on Gran Canaria. They post photos regularly on their website
( www.alberguedeanimales.org ).

When one views the photos, the animals are shown by cage number for easy reference if you go to the shelter for a personal look&/see.

To quote a roughly translated Bañaderos missive:

Our animals are expecting to be adopted by a RESPONSIBLE family. If you are thinking about adopting a dog or cat and do not understand clearly what pet guardianship responsibilities are, we recommend you read adoptados: HTTPS://dl.dropbox.com/u/2980539/SOLO%20TEXTO%20PDF%20REDU.PDF.

All the photos are taken by VOLUNTEERS donating time and energy. They do NOT work in the shelter. They help to record and disseminate photos to assist in the adoption effort. Should you require specifics (age, good with children, cats, dogs, eventual size, barker, house-trained, good character?), we cannot help. We do not have the staff to develop individual information on each animal. If you have interest to adopt, we recommend you print the photo and go personally and as soon as possible to the shelter. The schedule, telephones and direction, are at the following link:

http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=134929606557468

With regard to the requirements and conditions of adoption, here you have another link: http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=134928506557578 . We do not accept bank cards; only cash. them that in the Shelter there are not readers of banking cards, for which we
Ask them that they carry the money of the adoption in CASH.

We cannot send animals out of Great Canary. The adoption should be dealt with in the same Shelter by the person interested.

With regard to how the Shelter functions, they have another NOTE in the following link, where they will be able to understand what happens day by day in our installations: http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=147005072016588

Finally, please, we ask them that themselves they be not forgot that the animals are alive beings that feel and they suffer, they suffer a lot when they are forgot in the Shelter by their families. If you are not sure is better than do not adopt, that close not the door to that find another home. Many people are carried in an impulsive way a dog and past a time (at times the next day, other some months or years later. ..) return it. The suffering of the animals when they return for the second time to the Shelter we cannot describe it with words. The decision to adopt should be meditated with its pros and its contras, to analyze well the size that has or will have the dog, the space and time of the one that arrange, etc, etc.

Thanks by continuing us, by diffusing us, by supporting us and by giving them to them a new opportunity.

A hug.

Doffen – The Golden Retriever

IN LOVING MEMORY OF DOFFEN

A Bridge Called Love

It takes us back to brighter years,
to happier sunlit days
and to precious moments
that will be with us always.
And these fond recollections
are treasured in the heart
to bring us always close to those
from whom we had to part.

There is a bridge of memories
from earth to Heaven above…
It keeps our dear ones near us

It’s the bridge that we call love.

Congo

Some of these tails wag and wane for months upon end. The case of Congo is one such story.
Congo was found abandoned in the outback of Paradise – a skinny little puppy, alone and afraid. He went straight to a foster home, but that lasted only a short while as the caretaker was already overwhelmed with dogs, cats, and a pig. Congo couldn’t cope and either good the Foster Mum.
So off Congo went to the TARA Home Away From Home kennel – a nice enough place, but not great for a little fellow who had already been abandoned twice. TARA quickly discovered that Congo was terrified of men – growling and flinching whenever male humans came near (TARA is not all that different in this matter). He had clearly been abused before being abandoned – a double whammy of misery.
Another foster home soon became a permanent home – ADOPTION, that most wonderful of words to the abandoned and abused. Bad luck reared its ugly head yet again, and the new home became another source of abandonment, confusion, and further difficulties with men.
For nearly 16 months experiencing changing faces and homes, traveling to and fro from the kennel, hopes and heartbreaks, Congo became depressed. TARA introduced Susanne (during her holiday from Sweden to Gran Canaria) to Congo and told her the sad sad story. Susanne has a heart as big as her head: “I will find him a fabulous home in Sweden!” Mouths often speak from the heart; actions from the head.
But one month on, Susanne called TARA from Sweden. She had found a home for Congo – a beautiful home with a Swedish woman who has seen the photos and heard the story. Through tears she begged Susanne to bring Congo to her. After three months of preparation – trips to clinic, coordinating with customs in both countries, booking flights, securing expensive and time consuming blood tests, Health Certificates, special live animal crates, international phone calls and emails, and so forth and so on – Susanne arrived in Gran Canaria to whisk Congo off to Shangri-la.
And then the luck of the draw rears his ugly head yet again! It seems that Congo is too much dog, too much energy, too much love, too much anxiety for his new caretaker. She has seventy plus years of life, and despite all the best intentions, she cannot manage Congo.
To find a new, loving home for abandoned and abused pets – that is one critical TARA mission. For just a moment, TARA let the thought slip out – Congo just might never find such a home.

Susanne to the rescue once again. A young, strong, vital Swedish woman had seen Congo with Susanne during one of her visits to TARA Home Away From Home. She felt immediately what Susanne felt: Congo was the most perfect dog in the world, the right dog for her in every way. But Susanne had told her about all the efforts being made to unite Congo with the elderly woman in Sweden. This new member of the cast of characters in the Happy Tail of Congo is our second heroine, Rosa. Congo has already fallen madly in love with Rosa and her daughter, and his Happy Tail is told! He has a loving human home for life!

The photo shows Susanne and her hubby, Tomas, with the smiling Congo and the loving Tigi overlooking Roque Nublo and Mt. Teide just hours before flying off to Sweden. Who is Tigi? Well that is another Happy Tail featuring Susanne, Tomas, Tigi, Troy, and Dixie. Stay tuned.
