BOTH BOYS ARE IN THEIR NEW LOVING HOMES !!! BEST OF LUCK TO THE LITTLE ONES !!!

These adorable guys were abandoned at TARA last Saturday. Fortune smiled upon them, and Sanna and Ulla scooped them away to the comfort and safety to Casita Finlandia – Arguineguin’s favourite foster home. Sanna dubbed them Sirs Remus and Romulus (Remu and Romu for short). Myth tells us that these twin brothers founded Rome. Their parents were the God Mars and Goddess Rhea Silvia. Appropriately enough, they were suckled by the she-wolf Capitoline!

These approximately 8 weeks old boys will grow to about 10kg. They are healthy, happy, fluffy, and fun – and in the wonderful temporary care of our Nordic Goddesses, ergo their behavior will be exemplary.

Would you be kind enough to scratch around and think of a home for these famed brothers of antiquity? They need a permanent home to build with their love.

Lately, she has been a little down (abandonment syndrome), but a good home will solve this temporary depression. She has just been sterilised, and her immunisations are up to date. Her favourite thing is sitting in a lap whilst gazing about, enjoying the comfort and security provided by her human companion. Missy is high energy dog and loves other “small” dogs and would benefit of having a friend to play with.

Episode 1
28.1.2011

Here is a TARA Tail that we would like to follow with you from beginning to end.

The story is about a 4-5 year old, feisty, male cat brought by a Canarian family to the TARA Charity Shops in Arguineguin, Gran Canaria. TARA vice-president, Sanna, recognized the obvious severity of the cranial wound (dreadfully obvious in the photos). Sanna named him Big Boy – which he surely is – a twelve pounder (5 kgs) even as sick as he is. Big Boy was found cowering beneath a car – terrified and in obvious pain. He was a scary guy as you might imagine. Nevertheless, he was captured and brought to TARA. Brava to his Canarian rescuers.

Sanna rushed Big Boy to the closest TARA associated animal clinic. The prognosis: A severely infected ruptured abscess on the exterior cranium. With constant observation and treatment combined with a skin graft, Big Boy could possibly recuperate. Even so, the damaged fur will not return and the scar will be deep and possibly grotesque. Otherwise Big Boy’s health was deemed fair. Blood tests proved Big Boy was not a carrier of the dreaded feline AIDS or leukemia. He was not sterilised, but once he realised that humans were helping him, not threatening him, he was tame and projected a kind of feline gratitude.

The case of Big Boy brings up many issues in animal welfare, not the least of which: Should the time, energy and money be spent on Big Boy when he will be very difficult (if impossible) to rehome; when there are so many that need rescuing and so few funds to go around; when much money and time might be spent to no avail (he could still die even with constant professional treatment). What to do?

The decision is not a difficult one for TARA. The policy is “no kill” unless the animal is in real danger to other sentient beings, beyond rehabilitation, and/or suffering beyond reason.

If TARA saves Big Boy, he can neither be abandoned to the streets nor dumped in a feral feline community (very inclusive and rejects most interlopers). We will need to find a human companion(s) – a home for Big Boy to call his own.

We intend to follow this story to a happy conclusion. So let it be written; so let it be done!

Episode 2
2.2.2011

Big Boy is alive and well – and thriving!!!! He is delighted to be amongst the living considering his condition just two weeks ago.

The folks who are caring for him during the tedious rehabilitation process, call him “Terminator” – due to his terminator-type wound shown in the photo. But that wound is fast shrinking – healing quickly due to the Aloe Vera treatments and adoring, loving care.

And as it happens, he should not be called Big Boy. Since his infection has been controlled, the massive body swelling has reduced, thereby reducing his Big Boy appearance. Now he shall be known as Good Boy.

His caretakers nurture many ill and/or wounded cats. Good Boy has won all the cat lovers over – a veritable prince among the beatitude. He was obviously cherished by his former human companions since he is so fond of humans in general. In fact, his former companions are probably worried sick since he never returned home, though TARA has had no luck locating them.

Good Boy is now neutered, recuperating, shots all up date, and looking for love in all the right places – with humans that understand the wonder of feline friendship.

Scratch your heads a think of an ideal home for Good Boy – the cat that many thought was too ugly, too damaged, too far gone to save.

Beloved TARA Friends & Supporters

Bañaderos is the largest dog and cat shelter on Gran Canaria. They post photos regularly on their website
( www.alberguedeanimales.org ).

When one views the photos, the animals are shown by cage number for easy reference if you go to the shelter for a personal look&/see.

To quote a roughly translated Bañaderos missive:

Our animals are expecting to be adopted by a RESPONSIBLE family. If you are thinking about adopting a dog or cat and do not understand clearly what pet guardianship responsibilities are, we recommend you read adoptados: HTTPS://dl.dropbox.com/u/2980539/SOLO%20TEXTO%20PDF%20REDU.PDF.

All the photos are taken by VOLUNTEERS donating time and energy. They do NOT work in the shelter. They help to record and disseminate photos to assist in the adoption effort. Should you require specifics (age, good with children, cats, dogs, eventual size, barker, house-trained, good character?), we cannot help. We do not have the staff to develop individual information on each animal. If you have interest to adopt, we recommend you print the photo and go personally and as soon as possible to the shelter. The schedule, telephones and direction, are at the following link:

http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=134929606557468

With regard to the requirements and conditions of adoption, here you have another link: http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=134928506557578 . We do not accept bank cards; only cash. them that in the Shelter there are not readers of banking cards, for which we
Ask them that they carry the money of the adoption in CASH.

We cannot send animals out of Great Canary. The adoption should be dealt with in the same Shelter by the person interested.

With regard to how the Shelter functions, they have another NOTE in the following link, where they will be able to understand what happens day by day in our installations: http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=147005072016588

Finally, please, we ask them that themselves they be not forgot that the animals are alive beings that feel and they suffer, they suffer a lot when they are forgot in the Shelter by their families. If you are not sure is better than do not adopt, that close not the door to that find another home. Many people are carried in an impulsive way a dog and past a time (at times the next day, other some months or years later. ..) return it. The suffering of the animals when they return for the second time to the Shelter we cannot describe it with words. The decision to adopt should be meditated with its pros and its contras, to analyze well the size that has or will have the dog, the space and time of the one that arrange, etc, etc.

Thanks by continuing us, by diffusing us, by supporting us and by giving them to them a new opportunity.

A hug.

Pumpkin was found abandoned at about 3 weeks old near Cercado Espina. He and his brother, Mango, were put in a garage until TARA stepped in for the rescue. Both sickly little fellas were carefully nursed back to health in Casa Paraiso by TARA herself (Muriel Alberta Mae). At about 5 months, Mango found a lovely new home in Los Caideros. Pumpkin remained on the road to recovery, and is now with the lovely Ann and Phil in Puerto de Mogan.

Pumpkin needs a permanent home as Ann and Phil are returning to Northern Ireland for the season soon. Pumpkin loves people, cats, dogs, children, hedgehogs, bees and butterflies. When you are nurtured in Casa Paraiso, one gets delightfully acclimated to the wonderful world of nature.

Scratch your heads and find a lifetime home for Pumpkin. Someone out there deserves this fabulous feline as a best friend
